Masterpiece handmade ceramic OINOCHOE decorated with overlapping belts with animals and plant jewelry.

The dominant element of the rhythm fauna is the chamois. In addition to chamois there are sphinxes, swallows and geese.

Oinochoe is a vessel for pouring the wine used in antiquity. Its name is a compound word from wine and cheo.

The name applies to this type, as it appears in the respective literary testimonies.

Another type of written pottery from eastern Greece is the so-called "chamois rhythm", which was produced in many workshops between 650 and 550 BC.

It is easily recognizable by the overlapping zones with animals and plant jewelry. The figures were drawn in black on an off-white layer that covered the entire surface of the vessel.

The predominant classification distinguishes an early, a middle (I, II and III) and a late phase.
These phases do not have the same duration in all areas, but generally correspond to the decade 650-640 BC. the early, in the period 640-580 BC. the middle and in the period 580-550 BC. the latter.

The most important production centers were located in Miletus, Klazomenes, Teo, Chios, Aeolida and eastern Dorida. Goat rhythm pottery spread from the eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea to Italy and northern Africa.

This, after all, justifies the existence of numerous imitations, among which those of Caria, Etruria and Thassos stand out.

The dominant element of the rhythm fauna is the chamois (aígagros). Apart from the chamois, you can find dogs, lions, sphinxes, griffins, hares and more rarely wild boars, rams and foxes.

Human forms are extremely rare. Geometric jewelry, such as the chessboard, is preserved from the previous decorative tradition, but new ones are also introduced, such as the radial at the base of the vases and the current spiral in various zones.

At the average rate I, the oinochoe is adopted with a wide mouth and a low spherical body, about 30 cm high, but later the clover-shaped one prevails.

Rare shapes are the disc with a high conical foot, the crater and the cup in the shape of the sub-geometric goblet with birds.

The forms are found on the shoulder and in the abdomen of the vessel and more rarely, in the first type of winemaker, and on the neck.

The fauna is growing: outside the chamois, deer with spotted skin, bulls, panthers and mainly geese are now appearing.

The swallow also plays a complementary role. The survival of the hypogeometric influences is observed in the decorative motifs.
